The California Legislature passed dozens of bills Monday with many more on the way Tuesday, the official final day of the legislative session.

Among the bills passed is one that expands the use of carpool lanes.

Tuesday’s deadline does not apply to the state budget, which is now 60 days late. Both houses of the Legislature are expected to hold budget votes Tuesday, but neither is expected to actually pass a spending plan.

Meg Whitman spent the day on jury duty in Redwood City, Calif.

The UC retirement funds face a deficit of more than $20 billion.
