Poizner accuses council of ‘trying to score cheap political points’ with Arizona boycott

Republican gubernatorial candidate Steve Poizner lashed out at the Los Angeles City Council on Wednesday for their decision to boycott the state of Arizona to protest the state’s new immigration law.

‘The Los Angeles City Council and other local governments should focus on how they can create jobs and better serve their citizens, rather than trying to score cheap political points by boycotting Arizona,’ Poizner said in a statement. ‘The people of Arizona, through their elected representatives, passed a bold law to address the growing problem of illegal immigration because the federal government has failed to secure our borders. I support this law and their efforts to address the problem.’

Immigration has become the hot-button issue in the Republican race for governor and has helped Poizner close what was a wide gap between himself and his Republican rival, Meg Whitman.
