Olympic skier Bode Miller appears to be heading back to the tennis court.

Miller, who was a state champion singles player in high school, says he will attempt to qualify for the U.S. Open through a new national playoff system that was announced today by the U.S. Tennis Assn. The winner of the 16-section nationwide tournament will receive a wild-card entry into the U.S. Open qualifying tournament.

Miller, who will be competing in next month’s Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, Canada, plans to take part in a regional qualifying tournament this spring. The two-time Olympic silver medalist won the 1996 Maine state high school singles title.
