The national shotgun championships get underway Sunday in Colorado Springs, and four members from the U.S. Olympic team will be among the 200 shooters vying for titles in Men’s and Women’s Trap, Double Trap and Men’s and Women’s Skeet.
Air Force shooter Dominic Grazioli of San Antonio, who is headed to his first Olympics, is the reigning national champion in Men’s Trap.
Vying for the Men’s Double Trap title will be first-time Olympian, Army Marksmanship Unit member Jeff Holguin of Yorba Linda, and vetean Olympian and USAMU teammate Glenn Eller of Katy, Texas. Beijing will be Eller’s third Olympics.
L.A.’s Kim Rhode (she is from El Monte) will be competing in Women’s Skeet to defend her title. Rhode, who has medaled in three Olympics (1996 and 2004 gold medalist and 2000 bronze medalist) in Women’s Double Trap, switched to skeet after Double Trap was eliminated from the Olympic Games. Beijing will be her fourth Olympics but first one in Skeet.
National Championship results will be updated daily on USA Shooting’s website throughout the competition.
