Santa Clarita’s Mike Day had the biggest rooting section at the BMX Trials -- and you didn’t have to wait to hear their cheers to pick them out. U.S. women’s Olympic rider Jill Kintner and a couple of Day’s sponsors had more than 100 bright yellow T-shirts made up with the slogan ‘Mike Day Fan Club’ in black lettering across the front.
Day’s father Steve said more than 30 friends and family members caravaned down to Chula Vista Saturday morning for the competition, including ‘people who didn’t even know about motocross,’ he said.
Day, the tallest rider in the field at 6-feet-3, rode with the number 365 across the back of his white USA jersey. His father said Day asked for the number because it’s the one he was issued when he first turned pro six years ago. Day is something to watch. For a glimpse, check this out.
