Donny Robinson cut into Mike Day’s overall lead by winning the second moto at the BMX Olympic Trials, holding off a hard-charging Day down the final straight. David Herman finished third.
The 10 points gave Robinson, whom many considered the favorite to win the second spot on the U.S. team to Beijing, 18 points overall. Day earned seven points by finishing second and will take 22 points in the final moto. Day and Robinson are both assured spots in the final.
Steven Cisar, who took a nasty spill on the second straightaway in the first moto, rebounded to finish a strong fourth to earn three points.
