Former lawmaker Mike Feuer, running in a contentious race for Los Angeles city attorney, has added Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) to his list of endorsements by elected officials.

Boxer joins Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) and Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, among others, in backing Feuer in the March 5 municipal primary.

Feuer, a Democrat who served on the L.A. City Council and represented a Westside district in the Assembly until he was termed out last year, is challenging incumbent City Atty. Trutanich, who is not affiliated with a political party.

Also campaigning actively is private attorney Greg Smith, a Democrat, who has won millions of dollars in settlements of civil-suit judgments for public safety officials he has represented in discrimination or whistle-blower suits.

A fourth candidate, private attorney Noel Weiss, does not appear to be campaigning actively and had not reported raising any money by last week’s financial filing deadline.

Unless one candidate wins a majority in next week’s primary, which is not expected, the contest will be decided in the May general election.
