Gerardo Marquez, 18, admitted that he and his friends thought about keeping the $800 they found inside an envelope on a La Habra street on Friday.

‘But we thought deeper into it,’ Marquez told the San Gabriel Valley Tribune. ‘We thought, ‘What if it belongs to a family that’s really in need?’’

Marquez called authorities that night and reported finding the money, La Habra police Lt. Jason Forgash told the newspaper.

‘We were all pleasantly shocked because it’s not something you see very often,’ Forgash said. ‘It’s a nice time of the year for the rightful owner to be getting this amount of money back.’

As of yet, that rightful owner has not been found. Authorities ask anyone with information to call police at (562) 905-9777.
