A CHP officer sustained moderate injuries after he was struck by an ambulance when a driver lost control of her vehicle on the westbound Highway 60 in Moreno Valley on Monday morning and hit the emergency vehicle.
The officer was investigating a single car collision on the closed Perris Boulevard offramp about 8 a.m. when a 20-year-old woman from Buena Park, driving a 2009 Toyota sedan, careened into the ambulance that had responded to the crash, according to a statement from CHP.
The ambulance then struck the officer and a bystander. The bystander and the driver of the Toyota suffered major injuries.
All westbound lanes of the 60 Freeway were closed for more than three hours and reopened about 12:30 p.m. The crash is under investigation.
