Police discontinue search for suspect on USC campus

Los Angeles police discontinued a search Saturday afternoon on the USC campus for a man suspected of possessing narcotics, authorities said.
No arrests have been made, but police have ‘pretty significant leads,’ LAPD Sgt. A. Olivares said.
Authorities had stopped a driver on a traffic violation at 34th Street and McClintock Avenue about 11:50 a.m. when he ran toward the campus, police said. Officers found a large amount of narcotics, believed to be ecstasy or meth, in the vehicle, Olivares said.
The man is described as a 5-feet-10 black man who weighs 210 pounds, police said. He was wearing a white T-shirt and black pants.
Authorities believe the man was not carrying weapons at the time. USC students received alerts advising them to “stay away from the area” of the John McKay Center and Heritage Hall.
Authorities surveyed Heritage Hall, where the man was believed to be hiding. The search on campus was discontinued after the building was declared clear.
Police have impounded the vehicle, a gold-colored Buick.
