Ex-neighborhood official gets 7 years in child porn distribution

A former president of the Los Angeles’ Board of Neighborhood Commissioners was sentenced Monday to seven years in federal prison for distribution of child pornography.

Albert Noah Abrams, 64, of Tarzana, was arrested in February on suspicion of sharing thousands of sexual images of young children on a peer to peer computer network of child predators. Abrams’ computer also contained a 170-page document titled, ‘Hunter’s Guide to Finding Child Lovers,’ prosecutors said.

Facing decades in prison, Abrams pleaded guilty last September to a single count of distribution. After sentencing Monday, U.S. District Judge R. Gary Klausner remanded Abrams into federal custody.

The case against Abrams was part of a wider probe of child pornography on a peer-to-peer network.

A search of Abrams’ residence in 2011 by federal agents yielded a computer and two external hard drives that were determined to have contained more than 3,500 pictures and more than 4,200 videos of suspected child pornography, according to a sentencing memorandum filed by prosecutors.

Investigators determined the drives also contained more than 3,000 deleted pictures of child pornography and more than 4,000 deleted movie files that had titles suggesting child pornography.

Nearly two dozen victims depicted in the child pornography found in Abrams’ residence submitted impact statements to the court.

“I live every day with the horrible knowledge that many people somewhere are watching the most terrifying moments of my life and taking grotesque pleasure in them,” one victim wrote, according to the prosecutor’s sentencing memo.

Klausner said Abram’s crime was more than merely looking at pictures and was not a victimless crime. When Abrams completes his prison term he will be required to register as a sex offender for life.
