Authorities on Tuesday were searching for a Lakewood woman and a man who were reported missing after a planned trip to Joshua Tree National Park.
Helen Melnyk and Landers resident Tony Nosow were reported by family members as overdue from a Thanksgiving weekend trip to the park, where they planned to drive some of the backcountry roads, according to park officials.
Rangers believe that a vehicle matching Nosow’s four-wheel drive Chevy Silverado was seen entering the park on Saturday morning. But a search by rangers on the ground and California Highway Patrol officers in a helicopter and plane failed to find the couple, officials said.
Officials said Tuesday that it was unclear whether Melnyk and Landers remained in the park. A missing persons report was filed in Lakewood with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
