I could imagine inviting interior designer Debbie Wiener inside my home without feeling ashamed. And not just because she makes me laugh every time I interview her. Author of “Slob Proof! Real-Life Design Solutions,” Wiener is dedicated to interiors for real living -- people with messy kids and spouses. She understands that laundry, dirty dishes and day-old cereal bowls may greet you when you get home from work – and those bowls may be upside down on your couch.
So, after more than 10 years of decorating for “families, pet lovers and the decorating-challenged,” Wiener is introducing her own small line of furniture, Slobproof! with Crypton. Crypton Super Fabric is a patented, seemingly indestructible fabric that resists stains, odors and bacteria. How is it different from something like Sunbrella? “The line is more extensive,” Wiener says. “We have traditional damasks, textures, more patterns and it’s anti-microbial. The protection that it offers is even greater.”
Her American-made line of furniture includes classic sectionals, chairs and portable items such as a swivel chair and a mini chaise on wheels. Prices range from $450 to $1,450 per item. Her inspiration? Her own family. “I’m big on mobility,” she says. “During football games, everyone feels like there are certain seats in the house that are better to view a 60-inch television.” In response, Wiener created the chaise on wheels pictured here, which is not so big as to dominate the room. “And now I can roll my husband out of the family room and into the dining room,” she jokes.
