Actor Harrison Ford will appear in ‘Ender’s Game,’ a film based on Orson Scott Card’s science fiction novel for young adults, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Ford will play a commander of the training fleet; actor Asa Butterfield (‘Hugo’) will play the young hero, Ender Wiggin.
In ‘Ender’s Game,’ which won a Hugo Award, Ender is a child soldier battling an alien force bent on destroying mankind.
Also signed on for the film are Hailee Steinfeld (‘True Grit’), Ben Kingsley (who won an Oscar for ‘Ghandi’), and Abigail Breslin (‘Little Miss Sunshine’), who will play Ender’s sister, Valentine.
The film will be directed by Gavin Hood (‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’), who has written the script. So far, there don’t appear to be any sequels in the works -- but Orson Scott Card has certainly provided plenty of material if the films take off. There are 11 novels and 10 short stories set in the Enderverse.
