We would like to have been at the Barnes & Noble press conference today announcing the new, full-color version of the Nook. But it was held in New York, at their Union Square store. Luckily, Engadget has the full rundown, with photos and lots of details.
Available for pre-order for now, the new, full-color, interactively tablet-ized Nook retails for $249 and is said to begin shipping Nov. 19. (That’s as long as there are no repeat delays, like last year’s.)
The new Nook has gotten app-y, using Android -- music site Pandora is on board, as is Dictionary.com and Lonely Planet. Also, you can play Sudoku.
Readers are, not surprisingly, a key audience, with the new Nook offering 100 newspapers and magazine and new sharing features.
As for content,’Random House, MacMillan, Hearst, Penguin, Conde Nast, Simon & Schuster, and Harper Collins’ were thanked at the event, according to Engadget. That’s two major magazine publisehrs and five of book publishing’s big six (where was Hachette?).
We’ll have more on the new Nook soon -- with pictures, we hope.
