The Massachusetts-based Small Beer Press has announced that its 2010 planner for writers is coming. The digital version is available now, and those who want to preview the calendar can peek at the month of March.
I know some writers who have spent many, many hours trying to figure out the ins and outs of residency programs, grant applications and even MFA programs in creative writing. A lot of that work is done for you here, with those deadlines detailed and looming some time before their due dates.
With the extra time, there are writing prompts, if you should feel so inclined. And as the weeks tick by -- it’s done in a weekly format, with space every day to write in appointments, or word counts or whatnot -- you’ll see more and more writers’ birthdays, prompting you to, you know, get back to writing.
The bent is Small Beer-ish, which means independent, science-fiction-y, fantasy-ish or just plain smart (birthdays include those of Ralph Ellison, Robert Lowell and Leonard Nimoy).
If you’ve got a good printer and a clever way to get it assembled, you can buy it now, digitally, for $4.95, in one of various formats -- daily planner size, index cards, or regular letter size to go in a 3-ring binder. Otherwise, you’ll have to wait until they come back from the printer -- just in time for 2010.
