Recovery Act funds to go to California energy-efficiency and solar projects

The State Energy Program through the U.S. Department of Energy will funnel $110 million in Recovery Act funds into energy-efficiency and solar projects, the California Recovery Task Force said Thursday.

Delivered through the state’s Energy Efficiency Building Retrofit and Municipal Financing Programs, the grants will go to local jurisdictions, nonprofit groups and private organizations across California. The money is expected to facilitate the creation of about 1,100 jobs and lighten the load of consumer and commercial utility bills, officials said.

Nearly 85% of the State Energy Program pot has gone to energy-saving endeavors. According to the task force, California will leverage $3 of state, utility or private funds for each dollar of Recovery Act investment.

Money for green jobs has poured into the state from the Recovery Act over the last few months.
