Bankrupt Dodgers are a punch line at ESPY Awards

The Dodgers were the butt of several jokes at the ESPY Awards on Wednesday, with the organization’s bankruptcy providing fodder for host Seth Meyers to launch a series of barbs at the team -- and embattled owner Frank McCourt.

Meyers, the comedian best known for his work on ‘Saturday Night Live,’ took dead aim at the Dodgers midway through his monologue.

‘I should point out the proceeds from tonight’s show go to a very worthy charity -- the Los Angeles Dodgers of America,’ Meyers said.

Meyers then introduced Dodgers star Matt Kemp, who was seated in the audience.

‘Frank McCourt told Matt Kemp, ‘Have fun tonight’ and then added, ‘If they have any ketchup packets, grab as many as you can, because we have run out of ketchup,’’ Meyers said. ‘Dodger Stadium no longer has ketchup.’

The camera panned to prospective Dodgers bidder Mark Cuban, owner of the NBA champion Dallas Mavericks, seated in front of Kemp. Both Cuban and Kemp were laughing.

‘The Dodgers are so broke, when players steal bases, Frank McCourt asks that they please return them,’ Meyers went on.

‘The Dodgers are so broke, their third-base coach is just a mirror, reflecting the image of their first-base coach.

‘The Dodgers are so broke, three of their players tested positive for ramen noodles.’
