What is T.J. Simers complaining about?
The Dodgers’ offense is awesome.
OK, maybe not.
But it has been for the last two days.
Behind Andre Ethier’s three runs batted in and James Loney’s fifth-inning home run, the Dodgers routed the Colorado Rockies, 7-1, on Memorial Day at Dodger Stadium.
The seven-run outburst followed an eight-run effort in a victory over the Florida Marlins in their series finale on Sunday.
The beneficiary of the lineup’s sudden, and perhaps temporary, turnaround on Monday was Chad Billingsley, who earned his second consecutive victory and improved to 4-4. Billingsley held the Rockies to one run and 11 hits in seven innings. He struck out eight.
Rockies starter Jason Hammel lasted only 4 2/3 innings and was charged with seven runs and 10 hits.
The Dodgers put up four runs in the third inning, the first two coming on a bases-loaded single by Ethier. Matt Kemp drove in Jamey Carroll on a sacrifice fly to left-center that was dropped by converging outfielders Dexter Fowler and Carlos Gonzalez. Kemp later scored on a single by Loney.
Billingsley served up a solo home run to Ty Wigginton in the fourth inning that closed the gap to 4-1.
Ethier singled in Carroll in the fifth inning. Two batters later, Loney homered to increase the margin to 7-1.
