The shadows have already moved passed the pitching mound by the start of the second innning, and are no longer a factor for hitters.
Clayton Kershaw gets the first two outs, but then rookie Brandon Belt -- in his first major-league at-bat -- bounces sharply down the first base line. James Loney fields, turns and throws as he crosses the line and to Zershaw covering just a half-step late. Kershaw drops it anyway, though it’s ruled a hit.
Kershaw then strikes out Pablo Sandoval for the third out.
Juan Uribe, in his first at-bat against San Francisco since leaving the Giants, opens the bottom of the second with a single to center. When Andres Torres overruns the ball, Uribe heads for second. He makes, but overslides the base and is tagged out.
Rod Barajas then loops a single to center, but Tim Lincecum strikes out Jamey Carroll and Kershaw to end the inning.
