Dodgers reject White Sox bid for Manny Ramirez

The Dodgers took a call on Friday from the Chicago White Sox, who asked about the availability of Manny Ramirez, according to a source with knowledge of the situation who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was unauthorized to discuss the matter.

The White Sox’s offer: salary relief.

The Dodgers said no.

Ramirez is on the disabled list, but the White Sox traded for Jake Peavy when he was sidelined last year. The White Sox’s thinking was that Ramirez might respond well to playing for Manager Ozzie Guillen.

The White Sox aren’t the only team to have asked the Dodgers about Ramirez.

The 38-year-old is in the second year of a two-year, $45-million contract. He figures to be a designated hitter in the American League next year, assuming he plays at all.

A series of strained leg muscles has limited Ramirez to 61 games this season. He is batting .317 with eight home runs and 39 runs batted in.
