Despite an impressive list of candidates from around the country, the New York Times has tapped its culture editor, Sam Sifton, to replace Frank Bruni as the newspaper’s chief restaurant critic.
Bruni announced in mid-May that he was leaving the high-profile food critic job to take a new job writing for the New York Times magazine. The magazine’s July 19 cover story ‘I Was a Baby Bulimic’ is a first-person account of Bruni’s adoring yet tormented relationship with food.
Sifton, who will begin critiquing in October, has written occasional essays about food for the paper.
