Visiting the Getty Villa in Malibu is free but it requires timed tickets for entry. Now the process of obtaining those free tickets has received an overhaul with a new, upgraded online system recently launched by the museum.

The new system is intended to make it easier to obtain Getty Villa tickets as well as tickets to other museum-related events, such as lectures, stage productions and conferences. (Tickets aren’t required for the Getty Center in Brentwood.)

Users who are new to the system will have to go through a registration process that includes filling out an online form.

The Getty’s upgraded system, which debuted in October, features a new user interface and a cleaner, more intuitive navigation. The site utilizes a shopping basket application that allows users to check out multiple items at once.

If the upgraded system has you confounded, you can still obtain tickets the old-fashioned way, by telephone, at (310) 440-7300.

And while entrance to the Getty Villa remains free, keep in mind that parking costs $15 per vehicle, except for evening public programming and other special programs held after 5 p.m., when it’s free.
