Ever wonder how a mural comes to be?
If you have a few hours (or days) to spare, watch famed Chicano artist Gronk create a site-specific mural at the Fowler Museum as part of the “Art, Activism, Access: 40 Years of Ethnic Studies at UCLA†exhibit.
Gronk, who has tackled everything from street murals to opera set design, will be working on the Fowler mural during two three-day periods, April 21-23 and April 28-30. It will then be on display in the exhibit’s entry space.
The mural is to depict current ethnic struggles. The larger exhibit, on view through mid-June, explores the university’s role in expressing issues of underrepresented communities in America as the call for civil rights grew louder, and features a display of murals, photographs, films and ephemera from campus archives.
