We know the Museum of Contemporary Art has been going through some tough times lately when it comes to its finances. Last week, the museum announced staff cuts, and today comes news that one-third of the board has departed.

Meanwhile, if you go to MOCA’s home page, you’ll be greeted with a plea to sign up for a membership.

But before you click on that “continue to moca.org†box, check this out: The Valentine’s Day “members only†opening for the museum’s upcoming Dan Graham exhibition (Feb. 15-May 25) includes a special performance by Sonic Youth and Mirror/Dash’s Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon.

If you’re too cheap to support the museum with an actual membership but want to hear Moore and Gordon, there’s a tiny chance you can still snag a ticket to the sold-out artist talk on Feb. 15, when they appear with the artist, as well as Bennett Simpson, MOCA associate curator and co-curator of the exhibition. For those wondering about the connection: Graham has collaborated with Sonic Youth on his art projects.

Proof, maybe, that MOCA hasn’t lost its cool yet.
