Never mind those post-Thanksgiving sales where you can snap up a pair of skinny jeans for half-price -- here’s a real bargain: Live from Milan, see the opening night production of La Scala’s 2008-09 season in a live screening at the Laemmle Music Hall in Beverly Hills.

No need to invest in plane fare or pricey tickets to Milan’s famed opera house -- for $25, see a high-definition transmission of Verdi’s five-act opera ‘Don Carlo’ at the Laemmle. Of course, the 9 a.m. screening time may seem a little early for a formal gown and pearls, but if you want it live, it’s A Morning at the Opera (with apologies to the Marx Brothers ).

Finally some good news for La Scala, plagued with recent labor problems that threatened to derail the opening night (in this November photo, theater workers stage a highly operatic protest inside the theater).

The opera will screen simultaneously in New York and other major United States cities, as well as at the Louvre in Paris.

For more information, visit the Laemmle website or call the box office at (310) 274-6869.

UPDATE: An earlier version of this post incorrectly stated in the headline that the sumulcast would be on Saturday morning. It’s on Sunday morning. So turn off the alarm clock and sleep in on Saturday.
