Jani Schofield, the child with schizophrenia profiled in the Los Angeles Times on June 29, was the subject of ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show’ today. Winfrey traveled to Valencia two months ago to interview Jani and her parents, Michael and Susan Schofield. The show, however, reflected Jani during a better time. The child, 7, was readmitted to UCLA a few weeks ago after experiencing increasing hallucinations.

The show includes footage of a rare play date Jani had in August with her one true friend, a girl named Becca who also has schizophrenia. The girls met while hospitalized at UCLA last summer. Becca’s family has since moved out of the Valencia area -- a blow to Jani and her parents.

The family’s lonely search for resources and help, the Schofields told Oprah, goes on.

A preview of the interview is on ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show’ website.
