Excitement is building over Chelsea Clinton’s wedding this weekend to investment banker Marc Mezvinsky ... and so are the rumors about what the top-secret affair will be like. All the Rage is swooning over some of the details that are leaking out: The bride (reportedly) has picked out $250,000 worth of jewelry (can’t say if it’s all for herself or maybe gifts for bridesmaids); guests have been told to wear ‘country chic’ or cocktail outfits to the rehearsal dinner; the reception will feature fireworks, a vegan cake and papa Bill playing the sax; and there’s $500,000 worth of flowers. Can’t wait to see how much of this turns out to be true! [ABC News]
Famously NOT invited to the wedding, President Obama spent Wednesday evening rubbing shoulders with a pantheon of designers and fashion royalty -- Andre Leon Talley, Diane von Furstenberg, Calvin Klein, Donna Karan, Tory Burch among others -- at Vogue Editor Anna Wintour’s soiree to raise money for the Democratic National Committee. In an effort to lure juniors and young male shoppers, Sears has launched a new section for them with a ‘happening’ name: Now + Here. Kind of sounds like what Nordstrom did years back with Brass Plum and The Rail. [WWD] (Subscription required.)
Do you ever pay attention to the name on your nail polish? The days of ‘Petal Pink’ or ‘Ruby Red’ are over. Polish names range from the funny (OPI’s ‘I’m Not Really a Waitress’ and Deborah Lippman’s ‘Before He Cheats’) to what-were-they-thinking? (Illamasqua’s ‘Phallic’) to some we CANNOT print on a family newspaper’s blog -- and probably don’t want on our nails either! [Huffington Post]
Beyonce’s ‘Heat’ fragrance was indeed a hot seller -- in its first month, it rang up $3 million in sales at Macy’s. Now for fall, the line will add a limited edition, a more concentrated version, ‘Heat Ultimate Elixir,’ priced at $59 for a 50-milliliter bottle. [People]
Calleen Cordero introduced her fall footwear line at an intimate dinner hosted by boutique owner Rose Apodaca, a former Times’ contributing editor and curator of the fashion portion of the Pasadena Museum of California Art’s California Design Biennial. Cordero is one of the designers included in the Biennial, which Times’ fashion critic Booth Moore says is a must-see. [Mondette]
