Chic sacks: Perrin Paris’ elegant Fall 2010 collection

Leather goods label Perrin Paris, which is based in both Paris and Los Angeles, is one of the most reliably chic bag-makers in town. And the family-owned brand’s Fall-Winter 2010 line only improves on its roots (which happen to trail back to 1893, when the company debuted as a Parisian glovery).
The new collection includes boxy clutches, ladylike handbags and even a slouchy top-loading tote (a true departure for the structure-loving brand).
Stand-outs include the Bavolet purse, available in leather and crocodile, which hearkens back to the 1940s with its snap-close, doctor’s bag silhouette; and the envelope-style Extravagant clutch — festooned with dozens of cut-outs of mini gloves as a clever homage to Perrin’s roots.
The house’s signature Ball Bag, an architectural feat featuring crisscrossing strips of leather to create a circular shape, is featured in silver, bronze and black for fall.
Prices for the collection, which range from around $700 to $5,465 for a large Ball Bag in crocodile, certainly aren’t cheap, but the brand’s craftsmanship and impeccable design make the high price tags feel nearly reasonable.
The company, which is helmed by L.A. residents Michel Perrin, a transplanted Parisian, and his wife, Sally Perrin, a Seattle-bred former model and actress, opened its first freestanding Perrin Paris store in Beverly Hills last year.
